Govt imports 2.03 tonnes of tear gas shells from India
Around 2.03 tonnes of tear gas shells has been imported
from India, with the consignment cleared through Benapole land port and
transported to the Jashore cantonment under tight security.
The tear gas shells, packed in 145
wooden boxes, were imported from Indian exporter Narendra Explosive Limited and
released from Benapole port on Thursday evening. The consignment was then
transported to the Jashore cantonment in a Bangladeshi covered van, Shahadat
Hossain, warehouse inspector at Transshipment Yard No 31 of Benapole port, told
TBS.
A six-member team from Border Guard
Bangladesh provided special security for the covered van carrying the tear gas
shells from Benapole port to Sharsha police station.
Later, another team took charge of securing the consignment from Sharsha to the
Jashore cantonment. The vehicle left Benapole and reached the cantonment
safely, port officials said.
According to port sources, the tear
gas shells will be transferred from the cantonment to the Bangladesh Ordnance
Factory (BOF) at Rajendrapur cantonment in Gazipur tomorrow.
Ruhul Amin, acting officer and
assistant director of Benapole port, also confirmed the import and said,
"The tear gas shells have been safely unloaded and delivered to the
Jashore cantonment. They will be sent to Rajendrapur in Gazipur on
Sunday," he said.
