6 Russians, 2 Bangladeshis rescued after bus-lorry crash in Natore
Six Russian nationals and two Bangladeshis were rescued
after becoming trapped inside a bus following a head-on collision with a lorry
on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway in Natore's Gurudaspur upazila last night (21
July).
According to a press release issued
by National Emergency Service 999, the accident occurred around 9:11pm in the
Naya Bazar area when a bus carrying Russian nationals to the Rooppur Nuclear
Power Plant collided head-on with a goods-laden lorry travelling towards Dhaka.
A caller informed the 999 emergency
service that several passengers were trapped inside the wreckage and requested
immediate rescue assistance.
The 999 control room promptly alerted Gurudaspur Fire Service Station and
Bonpara-Hatikumrul Highway Police Station. The emergency call was received by
999 call taker Constable Md Abdul Kader, while Fire Dispatcher Firefighter Md
Altaf Hossain coordinated the rescue operation.
Rescue teams from the fire service
and highway police reached the scene and rescued all eight trapped passengers
alive. The injured—six Russian nationals and two Bangladeshis—were taken to a
nearby hospital for treatment.
The rescued Russian nationals were
identified as Rakhmatulin Vadim, 44, Maksimov, 47, Pronin Andrei, 22, Lota, 24,
Krivovoshayka Nadezhda, 30, and Salnikova Valentina, 24.
The two injured Bangladeshis were
identified as Shahidul, 35, and Anik, 33.
One Bangladeshi, identified as Rimon, 16, son of Jahurul Sheikh of Kholabaria,
Haybatpur in Natore Sadar, died at the scene, the press release added.
