High Court directs EC to register Bangladesh People's League in three months
The High Court today (22 July) directed the Election
Commission (EC) to register the Bangladesh People's League within three months,
disposing of a rule issued over the party's registration.
The order was passed by a High
Court bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Syed Mohammad Tajrul
Hossain.
Senior lawyer Garib Newaz Mohammad,
who is also the party's chairman, represented the petitioner, while lawyer Md
Selim Mia appeared for the Election Commission.
Earlier, the party's Secretary General, Advocate Syed Mahbub Hossain, filed a
writ petition, stating that Bangladesh People's League was founded in 1976.
According to the petition, the
party applied for registration in 2025, but the EC informed it on 2 February
that the application had been rejected.
The party then challenged the
decision in the High Court, which issued the rule before delivering today's
verdict directing the EC to register the party within three months.
